ABOUT ME
Meghan Gallagher ✦ Chicago, IL
In my art, I like to bridge memories and places with embroidery. Using architectural elements allows me to elevate your special place in an artistic way.
Background
My background is everything but traditional. I have a degree in Finance because I didn’t think there was a creative bone in my body. Little did I know that creativity can apply to really anything in life like problem solving or connecting with people.
I am forever grateful for getting opportunities to live and travel in foreign countries. As a high-school exchange student, I was always fascinated in empathizing with other cultures and learn more. This experience lead me to study in Thailand and eventually backpack all over Europe.
During my Europe trip, I was constantly in awe with the people, vibes, food, and architecture. I found myself taking more and more pictures of buildings or places where I have a fond memory.
Skip forward six years, I’m working in Customer Support as a remote worker. I was looking for a perfect unplugged activity, knitting. I really enjoyed knitting but it was almost too technical and not fulfilling that artistic need.
The catalyst that ultimately lead me to embroidery was my dad’s passing and discovering architectural embroidery. My dad was a well renowned architect and my sister showed me Charles & Elin website.
I knew this medium was perfect for me. Architectural embroidery has always been a great outlet for my creativity but also to connect with my father.
In my spare time, you can find me…
Making pour-over coffee
Watching true-crime series, or any good tv really
Eating yummy food
Seeing the fam in Wisconsin or Argentina
Falling in love with Chicago over and over again
Let’s make something together
